Buy it below, and stay tuned for a 12-inch from Cloud Nothings coming very soon.) 6.00

KING KHAN & PAT METEOR - The fiery tears of st. laurent 7" (sub pop - King Khan's tribute to French Canada. The A-side recalls the story of St. Laurent who was burned at the stake for refusing to renounce Jesus in front of the King. While his flesh was burning he said "I am crisp on this side it is time to turn me over" and earned sainthood, Shooting stars (traditionally called the Fiery Tears of St. Laurent) can often be seen above King Khan's hometown of Montreal.) 6.00

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS - same LP (rocket girl - A Place To Bury Strangers have often been called "the loudest band in New York". This may very well be the case, but unlike much so-called "loud" rock and roll that's out there, APTBS is not loud simply for the sake of it. The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own, fostered by an unbridled passion that's clearly evident in every live show they play and each recording they make. A Place To Bury Strangers does not so much play songs as allow them to pour out. They are songs about longing, heartbreak and confusion played extremely well and at a passionately loud volume.) 16.00
ALOHA - Home Acres LP (polyvinyl - Includes code for a free digital download of all songs in MP3 format! Aloha follows the acclaimed LP Some Echoes (2006) and acoustic EP Light Works (2007) with a powerful record that shows the band unbound by past influences and boldly stepping out of the shadows. Home Acres pushes the tempos and dials up the guitars, with the band's slow-burn intensity sometimes overflowing into huge moments. But even as the energy surges, Aloha casts an otherworldly glow, serving up ambience and attack with equal measure. Lyrically, Home Acres tries to sort through the wreckage of the Great Lakes region and a way of life. Left abandoned "waiting for a getaway car that never came" in the record's arena-rock-by-way-of-Silver Apples closer "Ruins," we're left to think that maybe we ought to have dreamt bigger and fought the urge to disengage. A suggestion that Aloha has taken to heart for its biggest, brightest record to date.) 16.00
ANOTHER BREATH the god complex LP (assault - It's been quite some time since Another Breath released Mill City. Granted it has only been a few years, but in hardcore that means an eternity; a lot has transpired in the world of hardcore since 2006. Countless bands have come and gone. Some have come back too! Essentially, the entire landscape of hardcore has transformed. In spite of all the changes that have occurred, one can always count on the fact that the music will remain inspired. The God Complex is no different. The album showcases vocalist Ted Winkworth's internal discussion on the existence of a higher power. Instead of falling into clichéd footholds that many preceding musicians have, Winkworth personalizes the story and takes on the issue in an educated manner. Musically, The God Complex is just as strong as the lyrical component. The album begins with “No God” and I immediately remember why I loved Another Breath so much. Powerful guitars that remind me of Quicksand lead the song into action. The song shifts its focus to standard fair hardcore with fast-paced drumming and more upbeat guitars. Eventually the song reverts to the thick grooves of the rhythm section with the driving guitars returning. “Sin Eater” follows a similar line of fusing melodic hardcore, post-hardcore grooves, and the aggression of modern hardcore. Kids bummed out that Verse and Have Heart broke up should be spinning the fuck out of this record.) 10.00
THE BUNDLES - same LP (k records - The Bundles boasts a line-up of Kimya Dawson, Jeffrey Lewis, Jack Lewis, Anders Griffen and Karl Blau, a formidable group of artists who have achieved great singular success. The Bundles started in 2001 as a collaborative project between Lewis and Dawson, who were fans of each other in the growing anti-folk music scene of New York City in the late 90s (she of the Moldy Peaches, he of the Jeffrey Lewis Band). Their debut album The Bundles is a delightful fusion of everything they have done on their own.) 15.00
BURNING STAR CORE - papercuts theater DLP (no quarter - The LP is limited to 1000 copies, packaged in a Stoughton gatefold sleeve, and comes with an mp3 coupon! Inspired by these singular instances (Grayfolded, The Grateful Dead; Sonic Death, Sonic Youth; In Search of Spaces, Flying Saucer Attack) C. Spencer Yeh, the lone constant of the long-running Burning Star Core project, conceptualized Papercuts Theater: one long piece (broken into four movements) culled from over sixty live performances, spanning years and continents. These formerly disparate relics of time and space now exist as one: a sonic document of the present.) 18.00
COCONUTS – same LP (no quarter - Words that come to mind while listening to CoConuts debut album: ugliness, despair, un-marketability. Theirs is a sound rooted in inherent darkness, influenced by early-80's post-punk, no wave (fellow Australians The Birthday Party come to mind) and the bleakest of world-views. It's an almost disorienting experience, created by homemade guitars that seem to leak feedback, built by founding members Tim Evans and Jordan Redaelli (the aforementioned Australians). The duo met up with Pacific-Northwesterner Daniel Mitha in New York City, whose primitive drumming completed the group.) 15.00
DARKTHRONE - panzerfaust LP (back on black - Panzerfaust' starts right where 'Transilvanian Hunger' left off, with a highspeed wall of freezing guitars and obscure, haunting melodies...however, things turn around very quickly on the second track as the Hellhammer/Celtic Frost influences that Fenriz now mentions constantly in every interview come into play. Slowing way, way down, the duo (by this time, of course, Zephyrous had left) painfully grind out abysmal, howling black prayers to the night and its infernal forces using the crushing, sludge-heavy style that Tom G. Warrior made so popular with his agonizing 'Triumph of Death', keeping the atmosphere and aggression intact with simple riff-based songs that are nevertheless incredibly powerful. 'Triumphant Gleam', 'The Hordes of Nebulah', and 'Beholding the Throne of Might' are just massive, monolithic, gouging anthems, as heavy as black metal could ever get, and among this band's best work. The rest of the album is just as good, and that's why so many people put this album on their top ten lists when it comes to favorite black metal releases. Also, Darkthrone's alliance with Burzum did not end with 'Transilvanian Hunger', as Varg Vikernes wrote the lyrics to the sixth song on this album, 'Quintessence' - a track which features what must be Nocturno Culto's most crazed, demonic, and horrifying vocal performance. This album is a classic, enough said.) 17.00
FUCK WOLVES / CHAOS IS - split LP (still leben - Nice split LP with germanys finest FUCK WOLVES and the CHAOS IS from FRANCE - this split LP is featuring five songs of each band. Silkscreened covers, inlay featuring lyrics and additional information as well as a CD-R containing all the songs for you non-vinyl guys out there) 10.00
JUVENESCEN BEAT - one day we´re gonna fall through this roof LP (ghidohra records - Juvenescent Beat! are on hand to summon up the ghosts of emo past and not utterly fail into the bargain. It's perhaps a bit early to elevate this to the status of the Pine, Sinaloa, REDS, Life at These Speeds, Bailer etc, but this is damn fucking close. I also love the fact that this LP looks like it should be on Ebullition, with it's type writer font insert, two colour cover featuring ancient warfare, and a sweet photo on the back of the band with the singer writhing on the floor. Of course, there is reverance, and there is being a carbon copy. Juvenescent Beat! are clearly in possession of the former, as this LP has so much to offer those that enjoy the good old emo.) 11.00
MAZZY STAR - among my swan LP (plain - Having built up a considerable reputation thanks to So Tonight That I Might See, Mazzy Star reappeared after three years with Among My Swan, only to receive widespread indifference. It's a touch surprising -- unlike, say, fellow 1993 breakthroughs the Cranberries, David Roback and Hope Sandoval didn't rapidly descend into self-parody crossed with delusions of grandeur. Instead, they kept on keeping on, proffering the same combination of psych, blues, folk, and art-pop touches that made their earlier releases so captivating. That said, though, at base Among My Swan just isn't as quietly involving as the earlier records, that magical fusion of styles somehow coming across as a little been-there, done-that here. There's nothing quite as immediate as "Fade Into You," nothing as awesomely delicate as "Five String Serenade," as woozy and powerful as "Mary of Silence." There are plenty of songs that try for that, though, and even if Among My Swan won't raise the dead or heal the sick, it's still pleasant enough listening, and sometimes the secret of success is in the details. Keep an ear out for the soft chimes that punctuate "Happy," for instance, or how William Reid from the Jesus and Mary Chain's guest guitar helps turn "Take Everything" into the slow-burning monster it is. Sandoval's singing is as drowsily intoxicating as before, while Roback's ability to create atmospheres is equally fine. Among the better moments: "Rhymes of an Hour," which carefully balances a quieter arrangement with sudden moments that almost but don't quite lead to a full-band jam; the acoustic-based mood-out "All Your Sisters," suggesting such earlier guitar/violin efforts as "Into Dust"; and the soft-landing conclusion, "Look on Down from the Bridge," a bit of a church hymn in its own way, thanks to the organ-led melody. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide) 18.00
MAZZY STAR - So Tonight That I Might See LP (plain - Thanks to the fluke hit "Fade Into You" -- one of the better beneficiaries of alt-rock's radio prominence in the early '90s, a gentle descent of a lead melody accompanied by piano, a steady beat, and above all else, Hope Sandoval's lovely lead vocal -- Mazzy Star's second album became something of a commercial success. All without changing much at all from where the band was before -- David Roback oversaw all the production, the core emphasis remained a nexus point between country, folk, psych, and classic rock all shrouded in mystery, and Sandoval's trademark drowsy drawl remained swathed in echo. But grand as She Hangs Brightly was, So Tonight That I Might See remains the group's undisputed high point, mixing in plenty of variety among its tracks without losing s
